Born on The River
Born on the river, Riverz hats are long lived, long cherished outdoor gear.
Our original and enduring passion was panama hats, thanks to Stefan's extended visits to Ecuador where these handwoven straw beauties are a staple of the indigenous wardrobe. But back in 1998, our beautiful panamas did not survive a rafting trip on the San Juan River in Utah in 100°+ heat. Stefan, an industrial designer with experience in the Bay Area outdoor industry, determined to make sturdy water friendly hats in the panama style. He created something new and called it Riverz, hats of handwoven polypropylene Techstraw. Fast forward, on the next rafting trip, we were outfitted with comfortable, beautiful, amphibious, unsinkable, virtually indestructible outdoor gear that has earned an enthusiastic following for a quarter century of adventure.
The interior sweatbands are elasticized and moisture wicking. The exterior webbing bands, woven for us, have hinged buckles to permit size refinement.
In rough or windy weather, the stowable chin cord keeps the hat securely on. Forgot the chin cord? Riverz hats float and have been recovered from rapids and lakes.
Too hot? A Florida harbormaster soaks his hat several times a day to stay cool. Need a hat to sustain adventure in the cold? Another devoted fan wears his hat in Antarctica.
Riverz hats are great companions for adventure around the globe in all seasons.
