Fond Memories of Ruth Garland-Dewson
Mrs. Dewson's Hats was a renowned iconic hat shop on San Francisco's Fillmore Street, open for 37 years before closing in 2011. A charming and celebrated character, Mrs. Dewson was known as the Mayor of Fillmore Street. She was friend and hatter to San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, who wore our Folding Fedora Panama and also bought some to gift.
My fondest memory—a mid-morning phone call: "Hi honey, I'm sitting in bed with my checkbook open on my lap. Do I owe you anything?"
And I was honored when Mrs. Dewson invited me to author a couple pages about panama hats for her book, Hats for Every Head.
